Description

The OPAL-103 Triazine Analysis System is a compact form-factor triazine analysis instrument. The system is a portable, easy-to-use chemical analysis tool designed for the quantitative analysis of %-level, triazine-based H2S scavenger and biocide solutions. The OPAL-103 provides the benefit of laboratory-grade capabilities without the need for expensive, complex laboratory instruments and technical expertise.

Raman spectrometers like the OPAL-103 are indispensable tools for the quantitative analysis of H2S scavengers, offering critical insights into both fresh and spent scavenger solutions. These high-precision instruments utilize Raman spectroscopy, a non-destructive technique that provides a wealth of information about chemical composition and molecular structure by measuring inelastic scattering of monochromatic light. In the context of H2S scavenger analysis, Raman spectrometers are particularly valuable for their precision, sensitivity, and versatility.

The core principle behind Raman spectroscopy involves exposing a sample to a laser beam, which interacts with the molecular vibrations of the sample. The scattered light carries unique spectral information that is specific to the sample’s chemical constituents. In the case of MMA- and MEA-triazine based H2S scavengers, Raman spectroscopy can identify and quantify the scavenger components, including amines, triazines, aldehydes, and dithiazines, in both fresh and spent solutions.

Fresh scavenger solutions can be analyzed to ensure the correct formulation and concentration of active ingredients, which is crucial for effective H2S removal. Raman spectroscopy enables precise quantification of these components, ensuring that the scavenger mixture meets specifications for optimal performance. A two-minute test provides the triazine activity for either 5-45% (OV-OP-B010-LPT) or 30-80% (OV-OP-B010-PCT) triazine solutions. Software upgrades enable additional capabilities, including the quantification of excess monoethanolamine and formaldehyde in fresh scavenger. Additional capabilities are available for simultaneous analysis of MMA- and MEA-triazine in co-scavenger blends, or methanol in cold weather blends.

Furthermore, Raman spectrometers are invaluable for analyzing spent scavenger solutions, which have come into contact with H2S. By measuring the dithiazine content in spent scavenger solutions, one can accurately assess the extent of H2S removal, monitor the consumption of scavenger components, and identify the formation of reaction by-products. This data is instrumental in evaluating the efficiency and lifespan of the scavenger, allowing for timely replenishment or disposal and protecting your assets from over-treatment.
