Description
OndaVia’s Quantitative Raman Spectroscopy methods enable fast, easy selenium analysis. The bench-top instrument consumes single-use, disposable analysis kits that provide a fast, easy-to-understand measurement of selenium levels in water. The method is specific to the Se6+ ion, enabling differentiation from the selenite (Se4+) and metallic selenium ionization states that colorimetric tests measure. With the addition of a simple oxidation step, you can determine total selenium content.
- Environmental Monitoring: It can be used for monitoring selenium contamination in natural water bodies, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and assessing the impact of industrial activities on water quality.
- Drinking Water Quality Control: The kit is valuable for water treatment facilities and regulatory agencies to ensure that drinking water meets safety standards by monitoring and controlling selenium levels.
- Industrial Process Control: Industries, such as mining and manufacturing, can use the kit to monitor selenium concentrations in process water to prevent environmental contamination and equipment corrosion.
- Agricultural Runoff Analysis: It can help in assessing the impact of agricultural activities on selenium levels in water, particularly from the runoff of fertilizers containing selenium.
- Research and Development: Researchers can utilize the kit to study selenium behavior in water, conduct environmental research, and develop improved water treatment methods.
Comparison to Competing Selenium Analysis Methods
The test kit based on Quantitative Raman Spectroscopy offers several advantages compared to traditional methods and competing techniques:
- High Sensitivity: Raman spectroscopy is known for its high sensitivity, allowing the detection of selenium at sub-5-ppb levels, which may not be achievable with colorimetric methods.
- Speciation: Our method is highly-specific to the selenate anion, enabling speciation in conjunction with total selenium after oxidation.
- Real-time Analysis: Raman spectroscopy provides real-time results, allowing for immediate decision-making and reducing testing time compared to other methods.
- Wide Range of Compounds: Raman spectroscopy can detect a wide range of chemical compounds simultaneously, providing more comprehensive water quality assessments.
- Ease of Use: The kit can be user-friendly, and its software simplifies data analysis, making it accessible to a broader range of users.
Whether used to measure treatment system performance, to monitor flue-gas desulfurization effluent, or as part of a site survey, an OndaVia Analysis System provides fast, easy-to-understand selenium measurements. In contrast to the alternative of laboratory analysis, an OndaVia system gives you the on-site results needed for an immediate response.
